elite pro profile: dillon renton

By Sage Fly Fish

Dillon grew up with a fly rod, raised chasing trout and steelhead on the Deschutes and North Umpqua. Following the path of his dad, David Renton, guiding seemed to be a natural step forward into the world of flyfishing. A love for Pacific rivers has been burned deep.

career highlights

Working with my family on multiple rivers including the Deschutes, and North Umpqua, as well as in Southeast Alaska. Building a family business has been incredibly rewarding through the challenges. The goal is to provide each angler with a high quality experience in an incredible place.

conservation work

The Steamboaters is a nonprofit organization founded by Frank Moore and other anglers of the North Umpqua. I’m proud to serve as a board member of this group. Restoring and protecting the wild populations of salmon and steelhead in the North Umpqua is of primary importance to Steamboaters. Furthermore, my family and I are proud to support the Deschutes River Alliance. Being able to give back to the fish and rivers is incredibly rewarding.

philosophy on fly fishing

Learn to enjoy the time between fish as much as the actual catching of the fish. Fishing is extremely fun itself. Realize the pursuit of production can partially blind an angler to beautiful places and moments we get to experience.

one tip to improve one's fishing

Always remember to bring an extra beer.

perfect day

Hop in the boat and celebrate a favorite section of river with great friends and a few nice spey rods. Whether its summer or winter. Regardless of whether we actually catch a steelhead, the group of us share plenty of laughs and learn a little bit more about the river we love.

a good fishing story

Any nice day without wind when the water levels were perfect.
