August 18, 2011 (Bainbridge Island, WA)–Sage Manufacturing, fly–fishing industry leader, announces a new category of fly rod using Konnetic™ technology called the ESN (European Style Nymph). Designed to fit most styles of European tournament nymph fishing, this style of short–line, contact nymphing is gaining popularity in North America

As heavy fishing pressure tends to push trout out of open feeding areas into faster, choppy runs protected by rocks and structure. Europeans developed a style of direct line nymphing using multiple, weighted flies fished under tension on light tippets to systematically dissect these micro-environments, catching fish when no other method could.

Konnetic technology allows for a very slim profile and extremely light rod which makes it ideal for the repetitive casts this precision method requires. The ESN’s supple, sensitive tip enhances feeling the take with a backbone powerful enough to quickly set the hook and land the fish. The ESN was designed around a brand new taper that is made with a unique compound-tapered mandrel which gives the rod the sensitivity at the tip and strength in the butt section.

“The advantage in using the ESN when fishing this style comes in the tip section,” notes Sage’s chief rod designer, Jerry Siem. “Konnetic technology allowed us to build a very small diameter shaft which enables better detection of takes while still being strong enough for a vigorous hook set, which is ideal with Czech, Polish, French or Spanish nymphing.”

High–end features abound on each medium action, 4-piece rod. A high grade, custom shaped half wells grip matches perfectly with the cocobolo wood reel seat insert with dark nickel aluminum reel seat components. The Forest Green shaft color is beautifully complemented by the dark green primary thread wraps with gold trim wraps. An evergreen colored powder coated aluminum rod rube has gold components and the rod sock has a gold silk-screened logo. Available in 2-5 line weights, the ESN fly rods retail for $699.

About Konnetic™ Technology: Konnetic technology, the most recent and significant evolution in fly rod innovation, uses new materials combined with pioneering manufacturing methods and processes. This technology incorporates an optimized ratio of Sage’s proprietary resin to exclusive high modulus aerospace-grade carbon fiber.

The latest construction methods include Sage’s Advanced Modulus Positioning System (AMPS); a process that precisely aligns and positions carbon fiber materials to exacting tolerances for the greatest blank strength delivering extremely efficient energy transfer throughout the shaft. Using Sage’s High Compression Molding process, carbon fibers are compacted for optimum density and precise alignment while simultaneously fusing the 50% lighter all-carbon fiber inner core.
